Records of a committee formed in 1987 at the University of Maine to plan a tribute to singer Rudy Vallée. Included are memos, letters, planning documents, press releases, photographs and newspaper and magazine articles documenting the work of the committee. Files of David C. Smith, a professor of history at the university and chair of the committee, are also included.

Rudy Vallée, a student at the University of Maine in 1921 and 1922, was a bandleader, singer, saxophonist and actor. His performance of the University of Maine Stein Song in the 1930s popularized the song and introduced many people to the university. The tribute held April 18-23, 1988 included talks on the entertainment business during Vallée's time, showings of his films, and a program on his radio and television contributions.
